One million lives

Our goal is helping save one million more lives.

Every year. By 2030.

Helping empower lifesavers

The key word is “helping”. We would never claim we are saving lives – our role is to develop educational and therapy solutions and services that help train and equip those who do – from lay people, ambulance dispatchers, and community first responders, through to healthcare workers on ambulances and in hospitals. We can only do this by working with partners in professional associations, NGOs and government bodies to develop the necessary programs and actions for widespread implementation.

A long-term commitment

Ever since the break-through of modern life-saving techniques around 1960, Laerdal has been driven by a single mission: helping save lives. As we look to the future, our commitment to this mission remains as strong as ever.

Improving survival in the community

The biggest opportunity to save more lives from time-critical emergencies is by ensuring the bystander and dispatcher are well trained.

Improving quality care in hospital

WHO estimates a shortage of 10 million health workers by 2030. At the same time, more people die from lack of quality care than lack of access.

Together with the World Health Organization and the Acute Care Action Network, we work to help save more lives from preventable time-critical emergencies in low-resource settings.

Our approach
  1. Early interventions with high lifesaving potential and low cost to society
Examples are early activation of the emergency response system, improved interaction between callers and dispatchers, and rapid treatment on arrival at hospital.
  2. Enabling technologies
Digital solutions and AI to capture and analyze data for decision-making, user feedback, Quality Improvement initiatives and adaptive refresher training.
  3. Collaborative initiatives
We believe innovation is about impact and the greatest impact can only be achieved through collaboration.

Setting a vision, tracking progress

This website is about the shared goal of Laerdal and partners towards 2030: Helping save one million more lives, every year.

It is based upon a book by Nina Tjomsland and Ken Morallee launched in 2020, outlining the opportunities and most effective strategies for how this goal could be reached.

Our journey towards 2030 is regularly updated on this site and in our Impact & Sustainability Reports.
